A Tradition is Born

What makes a tradition? How many times does something have to happen before it becomes a tradition? What's the difference between a tradition and a habit?

I think we've hatched a new tradition. This was the 2nd cook-off between my ever-lovin' and a friend. Last year EL won the battle: flank steak. This year he lost in pork tenderloin.

But even more important (shhhh, don't tell him I said that) than the food is the chance to have eat, drink, and chat with friends and neighbors we don't see very often.

And the contest has now taken on a life of its own. Other neighbors of the host home want to participate. Friends want to take over making the ballots and revise the rules.

I think occurring twice and requests for repeats makes it a tradition. We can now safely call it the annual Iron Chef Altadena battle to see whose cuisine reigns supreme.

And our home and family must bid farewell to the trophy with the rusty whisk on top. Until next year and Battle: Ribs, that is.
