Do we ever feel like we have enough? Enough love, enough time, enough money, enough anything?
Yet it's when we lack something, that we truly appreciate it. The poorest people in the poorest countries of the world are grateful for so little. The wealthiest people in the wealthiest country have everything and are disdainful of it.
It's the great paradox of abundance.
I have a wonderful husband and a good marriage. I try hard to take it for granted. We work at it. But we also go through dry spells, seasons of not taking time for each other, letting little irritations accumulate. It's during those times that I'm grateful we're committed to each other and have an intimate marriage. It's a guarantee that we'll stick around and work it out.
We're approaching thirty years this fall. And it gets better. Not easier. But better. And that's good.
