The next love language we're going to talk about is Gifts. They can be tricky. You have to be sure the gift is something the recipient wants and will like. In other words, don't give your husband a gift certificate for scrapbooking supplies. Unless of course, he's into that. Hey, it could happen. And remember, the thought and trouble you go to is as important, or more important, than the gift itself. Some ideas:
Take him lunch at work.
Buy concert or sporting event tickets.
Go shopping together. Buy each other gifts for under $5. The most creative wins a prize - a cafe mocha or something else appealing.
Plan a treasure map or car rally and have him solve a puzzle to find a gift. This can make a simple/inexpensive gift into something really special.
Purchase lessons for both of you for self-defense or ballroom dancing classes. Or any new skill. I bought myself golf lessons a year ago, fell in love with the sport and now we golf together.
Rent a private plane and fly to a special occasion restaurant.
Make a gift basket of healthy and/or yummy snacks for him to keep at work.
Give a memento of a past special time, such as a seashell, dried flower, or a restaurant menu.
Make a copy of your face and mail it to him. (On a copy machine. Xerox is copyrighted, so I can't say "Xerox your face.")
Give him a long distance calling card so he can call a faraway friend or family member and not worry aobut the phone bill.
An issue (or subscription) to his favorite sports/hobby magazine.
Rent or borrow a flashy sports car for the day.
Have flowers or balloons delivered to him at work.
Frame a certificate declaring your love for him.
Get a gift certificate to the local home improvement, hobby, or hardware store.
Have fun with these, customize them to fit your lifestyle and budget. That's the beauty of speaking love languages, they're so customizeable. Is that a word?? Well, you know what I mean. Last up - Words of Affirmation.
