Love Language #1 - Acts of Service

An act of service is any kind and thoughtful thing you do. Here's a quick list to spark your creativity if your spouse's love language is acts of service.

Take out the trash - or do any of his usual chores for him.

Check the fluid levels in his car.

Hire a handy man to take care of some of those annoying household tasks that have been piling up.

Prepare a heart-shaped meal. But heart-shaped pasta, serve artichoke hearts, and heart shaped cookies. Or make a heart-shaped cake (Bake one 8" square and one round cake. Cut the round layer in half. Turn the square so it's a diamond, with a point top and bottom. Place each half against the top straight edges. Ice and decorate as you wish.)

Serve together. Do yard work for a shut-in or deliver a meal to a new mother.

Bake a cookie bouquet. Make jumbo cookies of your favorite recipe, wrap in cellophane and attach to a long green floral stick.

Make a theme dinner. Create your own restaurant at home such as French cafe or All American Drive-in. Or eat noodles while sitting on the floor and call it Japanese. One of my neighbors used to take a picnic dinner up to the roof and eat under the stars.

Make sure he has clean clothes.

Squeeze the toothpaste on his toothbrush.

Pop his towel in the dryer for a minute while he's in the shower. Greet him with a toasty warm towel when he gets out.

Watch his favorite sport on television with him. Or take the kids out for the afternoon so he can watch the game in peace.

These are just launching pad ideas. Tweak them and make them your own.

I love this blog! Thanks for writing this wonderful blog. I came here looking for some nice ideas for Valentine's Day,but your post has inspired me NOT to wait till Valentine's Day to show my affection towards him.

I am saving the 'heart shaped foods' and 'themed dinner' ideas for V Day, but many of the rest, I am thinking of doing them right away. Your post made me think - he has realy been busy with those annoying little odd household jobs these days. I will get someone else to do them and give him the gift of relaxation!

I am back to say that this worked and you should have seen the look on my husband's face! He never really thought I would ever be so thoughtful and think about the 'odd little jobs' he's been doing. He simply couldn't speak!!
