“There are all kinds of quick and easy options for working a warm breakfast into your morning routine,” says Guy Beardsmore, corporate chef for Sargento Foods Inc. “If you’re really crunched for time, consider meal options like quiche and breakfast casseroles. They both allow for the majority of the prep work to be done the night before and can be cooked virtually hands-free in the morning while you go about your routine.”
Don’t let the thought of leftovers discourage you from making a larger breakfast dish such as a quiche or strata. According to the American Egg Board, if refrigerated and stored properly, leftovers containing cooked egg can be reheated and enjoyed within two to three days. Be sure to divide large amounts of leftovers into small, shallow containers promptly after you serve them and refrigerate them immediately so that they’ll cool quickly. For an additional measure of safety, thoroughly reheat all leftovers to 165 degrees Fahrenheit before serving.
Chef Beardsmore suggests that tackling the morning time-crunch is as simple as looking for ways to tweak traditional hot breakfast favorites that will help you enjoy the same great tastes on a tight schedule. “There’s always a shortcut,” says Beardsmore. “Think about your classic plate of eggs, bacon and toast: if you scramble the eggs with new Sargento Bistro Blends Shredded Sharp Wisconsin & Vermont Cheddar Cheese with Real Bacon while you toast two pieces of bread, you can have a delicious, portable sandwich version of the same meal in five minutes!”
Consider some of these additional options for a warm, satisfying breakfast when you’re on-the-go:
* Just because it’s quick doesn’t mean it can’t be decadent. Open a package of refrigerated crescent rolls, separate the triangles and brush with melted butter. Add in some turkey and Cheddar cheese slices, jam or even chocolate chips for delicious breakfast croissants on the go.
* Don’t forget about the classic bowl of instant oatmeal when you’re looking for easy, warm breakfast options. Spice up this old favorite with dried fruit or crushed nuts. For those really short on time: drizzle very hot tap water over instant oatmeal for a warm and soothing breakfast in five seconds.
* For those savory breakfast cravings, try melting shredded Cheddar cheese with bacon over an English muffin using the toaster oven or even the microwave.
* For a quick crowd pleaser, make a few extra pancakes with a weekend batch, and refrigerate in plastic bags. In the morning, heat up the pancakes and microwave with frozen sausage links. Wrap each link in a pancake for a hearty breakfast that can be eaten in the car or on the way to the bus stop.
For another great way to start the day with a warm meal when you’re short on time, try your hand at breakfast wraps. This easy favorite is sure to appeal to the “grab-it-and-go” mentality of your morning routine.
This isn't going to be a very popular little blurb, but I do have some words of wisdom to share that would make your life much less stressful. However, you'll have to toughen up and give it a try before telling me I'm a nut or worse!
Moms, what time do you get up in the mornings?? Do you sleep til the very last moment every single day? Do you sleep way past sunrise? Do you sleep way past "The Today Show"? Honey, it's time to wake up!!!!
You just have to trust me on this one, okay? I know more mothers who sleep til 10 a.m. every single day then drag out of bed and wonder why they're tired all day long. It's a bad habit and one that, in my opinion, causes more stress than not.
I promise you'll feel so much better if you just make a habit of getting up shortly after sunrise. Stayed up too late? Well, don't. Go to bed at a decent hour. You'll be doing your entire family a large favor! You'll be teaching your children how to live as responsible, energetic, hard working citizens. You'll be supporting your husband (you want his support too, don't you?) by just being present in life. And you'll be far less sleepy when you get your body into this routine.
Old fashioned thinking you say? I don't agree. True principles are ageless. And laziness is killing the generations under us. They have such attitude and we wonder why? Hmmm . . .
Although I don't mean you have to wake before the dawn, I do want to say that there is something very sacred about getting up at that time and knowing it's just you and God. Quiet. Still. A perfect time to prepare your spirit for the day ahead. Be ready when the chaos hits! Spread calmness in your home. You'll see a huge difference. Write and tell me about that too. I want to hear about it.
See ya in the morning!
Stress comes to us disguised in many different costumes. Of course, we recognize many of the obvious ones. Like too-full to-do lists, caring for sick children, and moving! But, it's the small ones that sneak in and choke us.
One of these is being overweight. I know, I know - I can hear you already. "What in the world would that have to do with stress?" Quite a few things actually. How do I know? I'm living it, hon! Right now. And it ain't a fun place to be!!
I've always been the same weight and never worried much about gaining - until the Big "M" hit me. (menopause) I suddenly packed on 40 pounds. Okay, it wasn't actually suddenly; it was two years. But, it felt suddenly to me. One morning I looked down at my waistline and said, "Hey, who put all this silly putty here?"
Being overweight makes you slower, fatigued, depressed, and plagued with ailments such as indigestion or more complicated illness. It's serious stuff. But what's even more serious is when we let our children become overweight. We watch it right before our very eyes. We leave them at a disadvantage in their young fresh lives simply because we didn't have the energy or time or whatever we call it to guide and direct their healthy lifestyles. I know that there are cases where being overweight is not preventable, but those are very far and few. I'm talking about the healthy child who simply learns at a young age to eat poorly and exercise very little.
So, check your waistline today. Then take a look at your child. Think of ways you can make some healthy eating changes. Talk to your pediatrician. If your child is a teen, check into programs such as Weight Watchers. There's oodles and oodles of optional help out there. Give your child an advantage in life. Teach him the health habits that will benefit his life for years and years.
And if you have any tips, let's leave them here for others to read!!!
