Yesterday my grandson got his second dose of immunizations. When his sweet little mama left him with me and went back to work, I changed his diaper. I was shocked to find not one bandaid on his chubby little thighs, but four bandaids!! What are they thinking? He's a little guy, you know? Does he really need to get four shots in one day?
I had to do a little research on this one. I'm sure most of us were vaccinated. I know I was. But not for every thing my grandson is vaccinated for. The Diptheria/Pertussis/Tetanus (DPT) is pretty standard stuff. Those are diseases none of us cares to tangle with as they can be very scary and very deadly.
I remember having mumps as a young girl, do you? I swelled up like a chipmunk and felt pretty crummy for a few days. It was kind of a "rite of passage" of childhood back in the day!!! That and chickenpox. Had those too. My own sons had chickenpox.
I'm still not convinced that we should be filling our babies with all this medicine (vaccinations). But, I do know I certainly wouldn't want any one of the little sweeties to suffer a bad disease that could be eliminated. It's just a topic of discussion for now - how does a parent know when and/or what to vaccinate for??? A tough question that I'm personally glad I don't have to make.
In the meantime, I am going to hug my little fussy grandson who is mad that someone assaulted those handsome chubby thighs yesterday.
Smiling!!! Kath
