Do It Yourself Subwoofer

The construction of the subwoofer is pretty simple, as long as the panels are cut. Start with inner panel and then go outward. To make sure you’re not met with surprises during construction it is good practice to do a test run first, by putting it together with the help of some tape, before you actually apply glue. This way around you’ll be able to see whether everything fits, or whether some panels need some extra attention. The entire subwoofer is glued together with regular white wood glue and the help of some weights and clamps. To ensure that the all panels are glued in airtight you need to use a sufficient amount of glue, which usually means that it will be forced out of the seams when applying force, this is a good measure of sufficient use of glue.

To add extra weight to the passive radiator it is equipped with a screw on the back, which will allow you to add extra weight. Obviously this weight needs to be added so the passive radiator cone doesn't slant or is otherwise obstructed in its movement. Use 1mm sheet and an 82-mm diameter hole cut saw with a power drill to make discs with a perfect center hole. After flattening them out and sanding them down a little, they were spray painted black. You'll need three of these discs to get to 200-grams, but it doesn't hurt to measure the weight before you bolt it on.

After the glue has dried and settled, which usually is after about 24-hrs, you can start with the finish of the subwoofer. If you’re looking for a professional finish you’ll need to sand it down several times and apply filler and primer to make sure any seams and cracks are covered and the surface is smooth and level. Then it is time to apply the final layers of paint, we opted to spray paint the subwoofer using automotive spray paint, which is both durable and tough, and when applied with care and attention results in a perfect result. Obviously you can also opt to finish the subwoofer by applying real wood veneer or by use of a paint roller and regular paint or any other finish that you find appealing.

DIY Solar Heating

1. Buy slightly more than one solar mass hydrogen (approx 2.2x1027 tons).

2. Technically for gravity to compress the gas to appropriate density for atomic fusion to take place may take several million years,so wood burning stove is a good option(make sure to revert to this system on cloudy days, so don't dismantle it once your solar heating unit is up and running).

3. When thermonuclear fusion of your solar heating device has been achieved (core temperature of 20 million degrees Absolute), be sure to place the unit at least 8 light-minutes (93,000,000 miles, or 1 a.u.) from your home, to avoid overheating.

Precautions: Always make sure to work in a well ventilated area, and always wear a face mask.

Fact: Your home solar heating unit should last approximately 10-20 billion years, providing 5x1023 units of energy per day (horsepower). This is approximately 8000 trillion times more than is needed to power the average home; however, it is still prudent to insulate your home thoroughly.

Do It Yourself Fish Aquarium/Tank

Equipment you will need:

Aquarium
Aquarium gravel
Aquarium filter
Replacement filter media
Heater
Other decorations (such as plants)
Chemical test kits
Fish food
Aquarium vacuum
Fish net
Glass Scrubber
5-gallon bucket
Pasta strainer

STEP 1: Buy your aquarium and equipment. Install your heater but don’t plug it in until the thermostat in the heater has adjusted to the water temperature. This usually takes about 15 minutes or so. Hook up your filter and any other equipment you have, and then top off the aquarium water to just under the hood lip. Place your hood and light on the aquarium and then check your power cords to be sure that they are free of water. I would also recommend using a drip loop on all of the power cords to be extra cautious. Plug all of the equipment into a power strip and then “turn on” the aquarium

STEP 2: Set up your aquarium and stand. Wash out your tank with water only! Do not use soap or detergents. Soap residue left behind will be harmful for your tropical fish. If you are going to use an under gravel filter (not recommended) now would be the time to set it up as well.

STEP 3: Get ready for regular maintenance. Be prepared to spend some time once every week or two to clean your tank. Performing regular water changes will reduce the nitrate levels and keep your tropical fish happy and healthy. Once a week, or at most once every two weeks, you will need to perform some kind of maintenance on the tank. Most of the time you will be performing water changes. You will also have to feed your tropical fish at least once a day.

Do-it-yourself Window Replacement

Although replacing windowpanes is not a difficult job, doing the job right requires a certain amount of attention and skill.

1. Remove the old putty from the window frame. You can use a wood chisel, a putty knife or a jackknife. Take time to remove every trace of the old putty.

2. Break the old putty into little pieces as you remove it. If you try to remove too much putty at one time, you may split the wood frame on the window.

3. Remove all the glazier's points as you remove the putty. Glazier's points are the small metal triangles driven into the frame underneath the putty that hold the glass in place.

4. Some putty may be extremely difficult to remove. If this is the case, you can use a heat source such as a heat gun or soldering tool to soften the old putty, which makes it much easier to remove.

5. Run the heat source along the putty just ahead of your chisel. The heat will soften the putty. This allows the putty to pull away from the wood frame much more easily.

6. Take your time when removing old putty, since this is an important part of a glass replacement. By using heat, a good putty knife or chisel, and a little patience, you can remove even hardened putty that is well set quite easily.

7 After completely removing the old putty and the glazier's points, use the point of the chisel or the knife to smooth out any rough spots in the wood frame where the new glass will be inserted.

How to make Double Needle Decorative Stitches

Double or twin needles can be used for decorative stitching as well as pin tucks. The width adjustment for the decorative and satin stitches cannot be as wide as when using a single needle.

1. Insert the twin needle into the machine. Thread both needles with machine embroidery thread following the directions in the machine manual for twin needle sewing.

2. Adjust the width so that either needle will not strike the throat plate at the widest part of the stitch. Turn the flywheel by hand for the complete pattern cycle to insure that the needles will not strike the needle plate. Some machines have a twin needle button that restricts the width of the stitches. Engage this function if available Adjust the length of the stitch to match the widths.

3. Place stabilizer under the fabric.

4. Almost any stitch can Be used for this decorative stitching, so play on a scrap of stabilized fabric, adjusting the width and length as desired, always remembering that the width is restricted by the width between the needles.

5. The different widths between the needles create different effects. With a narrow width twin needle such as a 1.6 mm needle, a space may be left unstitched between the edges of the stitches created by the two needles. This gives the effect of three separate colors.

6. I especially like double needle scallops, straight stitch double needle scallops and featherstitch double needle stitching.

How to polish Silver

Boil soft rags for five minutes (nothing is better for the purpose than the tops of old cotton stockings) in a mixture of new milk and ammonia. As soon as they are taken out, wring them for a moment in cold water, and dry before the fire.

With these rags rub the silver briskly as soon as it has been well washed and dried after daily use. A most beautiful deep polish will be produced, and the silver will require nothing more than merely to be dusted with a leather or a dry, soft cloth before it is again put on the table.
