Tricia Goyer has written an excellent trilogy called "Chronicles of the Spanish Civil War." The three titles are:
A Valley of Betrayal
A Shadow of Treason
A Whisper of Freedom
This is a fabulous trilogy about a little-studied piece of our world's history, the war sandwiched between the Great War and World War Two. The war where there isn't a good guy in a white hat who triumphs over a bad guy in a black hat. I truly enjoyed this series.
Before reading the first book, A Valley of Betrayal, the only other Spanish Civil War book I'd read isn't even considered such; it's considered Jewish lit (Davita's Harp by Chaim Potok; in it, Ilana's parents are Communist and her journalist father dies during the bombing of Guernica). But these books, ah, these books are fascinating. There are so many wonderful likeable characters. Not one is completely all good or all bad. Each is wonderfully and humanly flawed, but what they DO with those flaws, and how they react to their mistakes, is what makes this excellent fiction.
You'll find these books in the Christian fiction section of your bookstore. But if you're not religious, please don't let that deter you from this excellent trilogy of truly historical, wonderfully researched, enthralling books.
